This week's pick: a free night at the V&A
Friday Late at the V&A, Friday 30 October 2026, 18:30 to 22:00. This month's theme is Phantom Constructs, with a DJ set at 20:30. It's free and drop-in, at the V&A on Cromwell Road, about 5 minutes' walk from South Kensington Tube. If it fills up, entry is one in, one out, so aim to arrive before 20:00.
Why it makes a good date: plenty going on, nobody watching you, and the café open until 21:00 if you want to sit down. Budget: £0, plus whatever you drink. Checked on the V&A's website on 17 October 2026.

Dates where you can actually hear each other
Loud bars are a strange place to get to know someone. If you'd rather talk than shout, go somewhere with something to look at and room to move: a gallery, a museum late, a walk with a destination, a daytime café.
Three rules of thumb: pick somewhere with an easy exit, keep the first meeting short, and choose a place where silences don't feel like silences because there's something in front of you. A great date for less than £20
Some of London's best dates cost nothing. The V&A, British Museum and National Gallery are free to enter and open late on Fridays. The Sky Garden's daytime tickets are free if you book. When we checked on 17 October 2026, a standard evening film at the Prince Charles Cinema was £14.50 for non-members.

What does an ID check on a dating site actually prove?
Less than people think, and more than nothing. An ID check matches a photo ID document to a live selfie, so it shows the person on the profile is a real human who looks like their photos. It doesn't prove anything they've written about themselves: their job, their relationship status or their intentions.
On Dating Republic, every photo is reviewed, but what members write about themselves isn't checked. Anyone can add an optional paid ID badge, carried out by the verification provider LEM Verify, and some accounts, such as sign-ups through a VPN, are asked to verify. Getting there, getting home, telling a mate
Meet somewhere public, near a station you both know. Get yourself there and back. Tell a friend where you're going and message them when you're home.

No. London is where Dating Republic started and where our first place guide is, but any adult 18 or over can join, and most of our guides, from cheap dates to rainy days, work in any UK town.
How much is it?
Making a profile and having a browse are free. Reading and replying to messages takes a paid membership: weekly, monthly or a short trial. Our prices page shows the current costs.
Are the people on here real?
Every photo is reviewed, but we don't verify member details. Anyone can add an optional paid ID badge that matches a photo ID to a selfie, and some accounts, such as VPN sign-ups, are asked to verify.
